The new crop of cider could be enjoyed from February to the end of April, (“cider season”). In Calatañazor, together with one of the best Basque cider bar called Petritegui, we organize the journeys of the cider with barrels brought from Guipuzoa and making the authentic traditional house menu. (cod omelet, grilled steak, chorizo in cider, cod with peppers, cheese with walnuts and quince). Everything is accompanied by the cupelas of cider from Guipuzcoa that you could enjoy without limit and the best environment around the cider.
Formerly there was no tradition of bottling the cider, the people used to open the barrel and drunk from it up to be empty, for that, they usually use a mug.
The tradition of the chocolate is closer: the choco season used to be used for the customers who bought cider bottles, to taste the cider of the barrels and they could choose the most they liked.
Nowadays, the choco season is the period in which the cider is tasted which later will mature in the bottles, giving the opportunity to taste the new harvest and enjoying the development of the cider inside the barrel.
