RESTAURANT CALATAÑAZOR

The Calatañazor Restaurant is located in COTTAGE Calatañazor in an old house recently restored from the eighteenth century in the medieval village of Calatañazor (Soria where Almanzor lost the drum).   It is located on the main street, where you can enjoy a fine restaurant with fireplace where you could tast the most traditional cuisine of the area with the specialty of season mushrooms, red meats, roasts, homemade pate, pickled hunting, pastoral crumbs. The weekend of November and for groups during the all year long, the Mozarabic gastronomic events are organized where you can taste dishes of the season and enjoy the activities. All diners are dressed up with vintage chilabas and turbans under the moonlight with torches enjoying Calatañazor, and the performance of dancers with belly dancing and medieval musicians who play instruments and old sheet music.

CIDER´S WEEKENDS

EVERY YEAR FROM FEBRUARY TO MAY

The journeys of the cider, with the authentic cider menu (grilled steck, chorizo in cider, cod with peppers, omelette, cheese with quince) with cupelas from Guipuzcoa and Asturias and the best atmosphere around the cider.

The new crop of cider could be enjoyed from February to the end of April, (“cider season”). In Calatañazor, together with one of the best Basque cider bar called Petritegui, we organize the journeys of the cider with barrels brought from Guipuzoa and making the authentic traditional house menu. (cod omelet, grilled steak, chorizo in cider, cod with peppers, cheese with walnuts and quince). Everything is accompanied by the cupelas of cider from Guipuzcoa that you could enjoy without limit and the best environment around the cider. Formerly there was no tradition of bottling the cider, the people used to open the barrel and drunk from it up to be empty, for that, they usually use a mug. 

The tradition of the chocolate is closer: the choco season used to be used for the customers who bought cider bottles, to taste the cider of the barrels and they could choose the most they liked.   Nowadays, the choco season is the period in which the cider is tasted which later will mature in the bottles, giving the opportunity to taste the new harvest and enjoying the development of the cider inside the barrel.

MOZARAB JOURNEYS OF CALATAÑAZOR EVERY YEAR IN NOVEMBER AND GROUPS DURING THE YEAR

This year during the weekends of November we organize the XVI Mozarab journey·   We relieve what Calatañazor was in the XVI. We dress up the diners with authentic vintage turbans and vails, chilabas. We visit the village in the light of the moon with torches. There is a show of dancer who does the belly dancing, of the veils. Medieval musicians play ancient instruments (hurdy-gurdy, the darbuka, the txalaparta, the Gembe, shepherd´s whistle) Traditional Mozarabic food (capon to the delights of honey, couscous, hummus, black pudding, fritters, tahini)
